The answer is simply no. A G1 driver’s license is the equivalent of having a learner’s permit to drive in the United States. It is the most critical time for a new driver. These drivers are just learning and therefore not allowed to drive without a licensed passenger with them in the United States. Canada’s driving rules are very similar, and there is a year waiting period between getting a G1 driver’s license and a G2 license if a new driver will not be going to a driving school. However, if a G1 licensed driver attends a driving school they will then reduce the amount of waiting by four months.
These types of drivers are the most dangerous because they have not yet learned to control their automobile and do not know all the procedures. They must practice and learn all of the laws of the road. A car rental establishment will not rent a car to a person without proper licensing. A G1 classification is not a complete license and therefore they will not rent a car to someone with a G1 license. Insurance companies will not cover a G1 licensed driver, and if a person with that type of license were to be driving a rental car, and have an accident, then the insurance would not cover the damages that are incurred.
Rental companies who would rent a G1 licensed driver a car would be liable for all damages to the car they rented as well as damages to any property or other cars that were involved in an accident as well as any personal injuries to any parties involved. Rental companies will not take that king of responsibility for much liability. It would be incredibly irresponsible and dangers to rent a car to a G1 licensed driver.
